Best LED Lighting Ideas for Gyms
Lighting is the fastest way to make a gym look premium. The right LED setup turns a plain training space into somewhere people want to be — and somewhere that films brilliantly. Here's how to get it right, from layout to colour.
Why LED Lighting Transforms a Gym
After flooring, lighting is the single biggest visual upgrade you can make to a gym. Good LED lighting makes a space feel bigger, sharper and more energising — and it photographs far better than standard strip lighting. If you post training clips or run classes, lighting is what makes the difference between "garage" and "elite."
LEDs are also cheap to run, stay cool, last for years and give you full control over colour and brightness. For modern gyms, they're the obvious choice.
1. 360° LED Tube Lights — The Signature Look
Vertical 360° LED tube lights have become the defining feature of premium gyms. Their wraparound glow throws light in every direction, creating depth and drama that flat panels simply can't match. Hung in rows across a ceiling or run down a wall, they instantly lift how a space looks.
They're sold in gym-sized bundles, are plug and play, and work just as well in a home gym as a full commercial fit-out.
2. Suspended vs Wall-Mounted
One of the first decisions is how you mount the tubes — and the good news is you can mix both.
Suspended from the ceiling
Hanging tubes suit large open gym floors and higher ceilings. Spread evenly overhead, they create a bold, dramatic canopy of light above the training area — perfect over a free-weights zone or rig.
Wall-mounted
Mounting tubes vertically on the walls is ideal for corridors, walkways, lower ceilings, or framing mirrors. It creates a striking lit avenue that draws people through the space. Many gyms suspend tubes over the main floor and wall-mount them down the corridors for one cohesive look.
3. Pick the Right Colour
Colour sets the entire mood of the room. Think about your brand and the atmosphere you want:
- Cool white — clean, clinical, energising. The classic high-performance gym look.
- Neon green, blue or red — bold, branded and high-impact. Great as a signature colour.
- Warm white — softer and more premium, suits boutique studios and recovery areas.
- Purple, pink, orange — standout colours for classes, zones or social-media appeal.
You can pick a single solid colour that matches your branding, or go for RGBW if you want the flexibility to change it.
4. Solid Colour vs RGBW Colour-Change
This is the other key decision, and it comes down to how much control you want:
- Solid colour — one fixed colour, plug and play, no controller needed. Simple and reliable, perfect if you've settled on a brand colour.
- RGBW colour-change — includes a controller so you can switch between millions of colours and effects. Worth noting: all the tubes change together to the one colour you select — they can't each show a different colour at the same time. Ideal if you want to change the mood by session, class or event.
5. Match the Quantity to the Space
Even spacing is what makes a lighting layout look designed rather than improvised. As a rough guide:
- Small studio / home gym — around 8 tubes
- Standard gym — around 16 tubes
- Large gym / full commercial fit-out — 20 to 28 tubes
Spacing them evenly across the ceiling or down the walls gives the most even, premium glow — avoid clustering them in one area.
6. Combine Lighting With Mirrors and Flooring
Lighting works hardest when it's paired with the rest of the space. Position mirrors opposite your tubes to bounce the glow around the room and double the sense of space. Pair bold lighting with a custom turf floor or sprint track and you've got a complete, branded training environment that looks the part from every angle.
